Terracotta & Other Sculptures to be Auctioned at Artcurial, Paris, March 27

Terracotta and other sculptures will be offered at the Artcurial auction on May 27, 2019, in Paris.

The top lots at the sale include:

— Augustin Pajou (Paris, 1730 – 1809): “Love riding a lion.” Original terracotta, Signed and dated ‘Pajou. Regis Sculptor.’ 1779. Cupid on a lion, terracotta, signed and dated, by A. Pajou. Estimate: 70,000 € - 100,000 € (78,820 USD – 112,600 USD).

— “Entourage of Jean-Antoine Houdon” (Versailles, 1741 — Paris, 1828): “Portrait of George Washington.” White marble bust, including pedestal in black veined marble. Estimate: 40,000 € - 60,000 €.

— Jean Carries: “The Frog.” Patinated Plaster, “The Frog Man,” patinated plaster, by J. Carries. Estimate: 30,000 € - 40,000 € (33,780 USD – 45,040 USD).

— Charles Adrien Prosper Epinay (Pamplemousses, 1836 - Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire, 1914): “Mephistopheles.” White marble, Signed ‘P. of Epinay’ on the back, Repose on a pedestal in gray marble (Wear). “Mephistopheles,” white marble, signed, by P. d’Epinay. Estimate: 20,000 € - 30,000 € (22,520 USD - 33,780 USD).

— Philippe-Laurent Roland (Pont-a-Marcq, 1746 - Paris, 1816): “Portrait of Augustin Pajou” in profile on the right. Medallion in bronze with brown patina, signed and dated ‘Roland statuary 1802’ under the neck. Estimate: 20,000 € - 30,000 € (22,520 USD - 33,780 USD).

— French School of the Nineteenth Century After Rene Fremin: “A companion of Diane.” Terracotta, carries a signature and a date. ‘Fremin fit / .1717.’ on the terrace. A companion of Diana, after Rene Fremin, terracotta, inscribed, French School, 19th C. Estimate: 20,000 € - 30,000 € (22,520 USD - 33,780 USD).

— Charles-Louis Corbet (Douai, 1758 - Paris, 1808): “Bust of General Monnier.” White marble. Legendary in golden letters ‘For 5 months / he defended Ancona / and in 5 days / Il on force Ancona’ on the pedestal. Resting on a column of white marble. Estimate: 15,000 € - 20,000 € (16,890 USD – 22,520 USD).

— Antoine-Louis Barye (Paris, 1795 – 1875): “Tiger devouring a gavial.” Bronze with brown patina nuance, Old, proof , Barye workshop Signed ‘BARYE’ on the terrace, Door number ‘410’ with white paint under the base. Estimate: 15,000 € - 20,000 € (16,890 USD – 22,520 USD).
