Dolce & Gabbana Opens New Boutique in Piazza di Spagna, Rome

As a striking tribute to the city of Rome, fashion house Dolce & Gabbana opened a new boutique in the famous Piazza di Spagna, located at the base of the Spanish Steps. Designed by architect Eric Carlson, the new boutique bears several trademark elements associated with the high luxury brand.

Often described as one of the “star-architects” employed by Dolce & Gabbana, Eric Carlson is heavily involved in the “#DGEvolution” projects the fashion house has launched. What makes this boutique different from those in Venice, Italy, and Monte Carlo in Monaco, which were also designed by Carlson, is that it features iconic symbols of the city of Rome such as the Capitoline Wolf nursing the twins Romulus and Remus. It also draws inspiration from the art and architecture that Rome is famous for, including the frescoes and paintings of the Sistine Chapel.

The boutique currently houses the men and women’s collections from Dolce & Gabbana and also has several iconic accessories such as the Devotion bag. Jewelry and other accessories offered by the company are also highlighted in the boutique which Dolce & Gabbana describes as a “unique space.”

Fashion duo Dolce & Gabbana begun by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana specialize in haute couture and ready-to-wear. Unlike many designers who make clothes to fit extremely thin models, they strive towards a look that celebrates the female body. After the brand introduced it’s women’s collection in the first quarter of 1986, the fashion design duo discovered that that they had different senses in style that came together well, with each contributing where the other was unable. Their work from the beginning has been based on Dolce’s native Sicily, and they often take inspiration from Southern European fashions. The two launched their men’s collection in 1990, the year they opened their first store in Milan. In 1994, they launched their collection “D&G,” a less expensive label.
