Beyoncé Is the First Celebrity to Wear Riccardo Tisci’s New Burberry

There’s no doubt that celebrity Beyoncé likes to deviate from protocols. When it was announced that Riccardo Tisci would take over the creative reins at Burberry replacing Christopher Bailey, imaginations ran wild about the creations he would churn out. The designer, who was earlier the creative director at Givenchy for over a decade, would likely offer a drastically different Burberry, and he has already begun to do so with a total revamp of the house logo. Tisci got his first major celebrity moment: a custom-designed ensemble for Beyoncé’s On the Run II world tour.

The singer took to the stage in New Jersey and wore a Burberry bodysuit, cropped jacket, and thigh-high boots done in the label’s vintage check pattern. For a theatrical touch, she also wore sunglasses in the same iconic print. The ensemble is already a departure for Burberry and though the print had most often been seen on trench or raincoats, it has recently been reinterpreted in a cooler, more street wear-inspired manner.

For Beyoncé, this won’t be the first time she has unleashed a high-fashion moment for her tour. In the month of July, she was also spotted wearing a Fall 2018 Valentino couture gown that was fresh off the Paris runway.

“Riccardo is well known for surrounding himself with a diverse group of collaborators, from creating costumes for work by performance artist Marina Abramovic through to directing the artwork for the multi-award winning ‘Watch the Throne’ album by Jay Z and Kanye West,” says Burberry. “He has also designed the stage outfits for world tours of Madonna, Beyoncé and Rihanna, introducing his aesthetic to an ever-widening audience. Riccardo has collaborated with Nike since 2014 and previously held design roles at Puma, Antonio Berardi and Ruffo Research,” Burberry adds.
